This is supposed to be a 'snapshot bio', but boy is it hard to get Rex to write about himself.
So, I [brother Dave] will put something together.
Rex was born and raised in the San Diego area having lived in the rural parts [El Cajon] and a couple of times along the ocean [Encinitas] and in the city of sorts [Mission Hills, Point Loma].
Since before I can remember, Rex has had themes running through his life movie:
1] Adventures; He loves to take off and travel. When he is just hanging out, he creates micro adventures for himself and others, larded with a lot of self effacing humor [very dry.. must be the British Grandparents..he always can crack me up]
2] Sports; In the early years he excelled in swimming and diving. Now his passion is golf and cars.
3] Teaching; As a teenager, he taught swimming and diving. Later he taught English in Japan, Okinawa, and South Korea [he had a TV program in S Korea that taught science to youngsters..'Mr Wizard of the East'.
In the 80's and 90's he was back in the USA and taught elementary and middle school kids. After 20 years, he retired. Now he does what he loves most.
4] 'Making things smooth and shiny', and colorful too. He has always liked fixing and polishing things. He has combined his desire to have things beautiful and functional with his knowledge of science to come up with a way of applying patterns, color and designs on almost anything he chooses.
Browse through the galleries here and be dazzled LOL.. His work covers a very wide spectrum. Glasses, plates, bicycles, sports equipment [Ski, Hockey, Golf [of course golf]], motorcycles, car bodies, wheels and hub caps.. even a steel guitar.
His inventiveness and creativity amazes me, but then I am his brother and remember times when.. but we won't go there today..
This 'little bitty bio' was meant to give you just a peek at the artist named Rex and to pique your interest in his art.. If you want to know more, contact him through email. If you are in the area suggest a game of golf..but watch out lol. He has a one handed putt that is lethal...
