Rex's own Nissan Truck!

The Story: John had been restoring his 1951 Willy's Jeep for about three years and the only thing left to finish was a new top and some interior work. He was looking for some wheels at a local store, and his wife saw some of the sample wheels i had there on display and wondered if I would be able to do something with their hubcaps.

I went over and looked at what was involved,made a few samples for them to look at, and together we came up with some design decisions. They wanted to keep the same color scheme that the painter had done on the doors, and somehow incorporate the checkers into the hubcaps.

I had the hubcaps powdered coated clear and in an artistic technique that i have been practicing for over ten years, I blended reds and blues in differing amounts to the hubcaps.

Because of all the reflections and the unevenness of the surfaces, the different colors are hard to really see in the photos I took, but hopefully you can see where they fade and blend into differing shades matching the overall paint design.

The air cleaner was an extra piece I had powder coated and blended the colors to match the already painted surfaces in the engine compartment.

Finally, I added color to the original hubcap that is on the spare tire, again working with a piece that was powder coated clear for the original canvas. Overall the hubcaps give the car more depth as opposed to just a bright chrome finish......and awards too!!
